Sunday BBQ at Clinton

Welcome back everyone. For those of you sticking around this weekend there will be a gathering at Clinton Park on Sunday. Similar to the Canada Day BBQ there will be a few BBQs that people can share or bring your own if it is portable. We plan on starting things up 4 to 5ish. Everyone is welcome.

Lots of beans and zucchini in the garden!

Need some beans and zucchini or kale for your dinner? Stop by the school garden!

Angela and I went in on Friday and got a giant shopping bag full of beans and another bag of zucchinis.

I spent some quality time in the kitchen that night freezing some of the beans and zucchini and making zucchini and bean kraut (i.e. fermenting them to make kraut). Some nice kale chips were also created:) All will be shared in the fall with the kids and families.
Please save me and harvest some for your dinner!

Gratefully yours,

Jana
Nothing but a hill of beans:)

Zucchini gone to seed  - will share them with you in the fall!

Local honey available for sale

Our family had the pleasure of hosting 2 of Julia Common's 73 hives this year.
See her (under construction) website:
http://hivesforhumanity.com/people/julia/

The hives were amazingly productive and Julia has already collected the first honey from them. The honey is sold to support Julia's efforts to help the bees survive with the challenges humans have brought to them and also to fund her beekeeping teaching projects on the Downtown East Side.
Our garden is located on Adanac and Penticton and so if you live close to us, you can get a truly local honey. I am currently collecting expressions of interest, as it will be a few more weeks before the honey is ready to be sold.
Feel free to visit us and talk to us or e-mail me at jana.ronne@gmail.com.

Want to learn how to prune raspberries?

Our twice/year bearing Garibaldi raspberries need their August pruning (after the first crop is done).
I am planning to come out on Wednesday night, 7:30 pm to do it and anyone who wants to learn how to prune (any) raspberries is welcome to come.
If you have your own pruning scissors, please bring them along, as we have only 1 extra pair.
Also, if you live close by and can bring your green bin along for the trimmings, it would be greatly appreciated.
I have a few clients ready to go into labour around now, so please, e-mail me back, if you are interested, so I know who to contact in case I am busy that night.
