Kids Culture Film Series is screening Cinderella Moon

Childlike yet sophisticated.
A fairytale set in ancient times with a modern message.
Made in China for a global audience.
An indie film with a big-budget look.

This Sunday, February 3rd  the Kids Culture Film Series is putting on another movie matinee at the Rio Theatre as a fundraiser for Queen Victoria Annex’ new playground.  The movie is “Cinderella Moon” from China.  One of our parents loves film and wanted to provide opportunities for more quality and international children’s movies to be shown in Vancouver.  She has partnered with Reel2Reel youth film and created the Kids Culture Film Series.  All proceeds she donates to QVAs playground.

Here is my request: at the bottom of this email, as part of the signature, is our school’s twitter feed and facebook page.  If you could re-tweet or re-post our ad for the movie on your school’s site I would be very grateful.

Also if you have time, you too are welcome to join us at the screening of Cinderella Moon.

If you want more info here is the official website for the movie:  http://cinderellamoon.com/

Light Water Drums Festival

www.LightWaterDrums.ca

Light Water Drums festival is a winter lantern festival hosted by the HNCPG that celebrates the dark and wet of Vancouver winters and the joy of Hastings Park's restored natural beauty. Come join the celebration for this free community event on Saturday January 26th, 2013. As its name suggests, the festival combines the themes of “Light” using fire, lanterns, candles and installations in the Park that glow with light in the dark; “Water” which is the rain, pools, ponds and the underground stream running through the park; and “Drums”, the joyful noise of celebration!

Gather between 5:30 and 6:00 pm at the corner of Hastings and Renfrew to enjoy live entertainment prior to the lantern procession beginning at 6:00pm. After the lantern procession around the Sanctuary at Hastings Park, enjoy popcorn and hot chocolate (minimum $1 donation for each item) while watching an amazing outdoor fire performance set to music by Radiant Heat. Warm up inside the Garden Auditorium next while enjoying interactive entertainment by CircusWest, drumming, dancing and face painting until 9pm.
Join us for our free community workshops each weekend in January. Workshops include umbrella decorating, drumming, and poi spinning. Local schools will be hosting various workshops during school hours and Hastings Community Centre and Kiwassa Neighbourhood House will be hosting workshops during their after-school programs. Everyone can get involved!

For information on becoming part of the organizing committee or an event volunteer, contact Pamela at info@lightwaterdrums.ca. If you are interested in creating a “Light” installation or performing in the park along the procession route, contact Loki Jorgenson at art@lightwaterdrums.ca.

Remember, this event is rain or shine, so dress for the weather to stay warm and dry! Please note, while we welcome pets on leash during the procession, only service dogs are permitted into the Garden Auditorium.
Information and updates will be available through:
