Hastings Community Association Governance Meeting

Dear Hastings Sunrise PAC members,
I have been representing the Hastings Community Association at the City of Vancouver's Stakeholder Advisory Committee regarding the future governance of Hastings Park. Unfortunately, my experience has not been a great one. The process has been less than transparent and, because of this lack of openness, I feel that I have been unable to truly represent the community's interests.
On March 11th at Hastings Community centre, the City held an open house where they presented 3 potential governance options. Over 70 people attended and the consensus was pretty clear -- the options put forward by the city do not meet the needs of the community.
Because of the lack of real community consultation by the city, a group of neighbourhood representatives from Hastings Community Association, Hastings Park Conservancy, West Coast Christian Fellowship and School, and Friends of Hastings Park have come together to organize a community-led public meeting to determine the important elements in a governance model that would meet the needs of our neighbourhood and the public interest in general.
The meeting will be held on
April 15 @ 7:00-8:30pm
@ Hastings Community Centre (Lillooet and Hastings) in the Community Hall
We hope that each PAC will send at least one representative and work with us in helping to bring community voices to Hastings Park.
